“Spring” Signs
by Richard Pellard
English translation by Julien Rouger

Far from being an archaic myth or a disembodied symbol, the zodiac is as real as day, night and their durations which change periodically throughout the year. To be born under the sign of Aries, for example, is not to resemble the animal of the same name, it is to have come to Earth when the Sun was beginning to rise in the northern hemisphere and the day had the same length. than at night.

Aries Taurus Gemini It is in an improper but practical way that we evoke the Signs of Spring, of Summer, of Autumn and Winter. Indeed, the seasons only exist for the Sun. For example, while the Sun is in Gemini, Venus can very well be in Cancer. The diagram above describes the growth of the dominant day in duration (for the Sun) or day arcs (for the Moon and the planets) from the spring equinox to the summer solstice (from the equator to the Tropic of Cancer).

The astronomical zodiac of spring

During the vernal equinox, the Sun leaves its course in the southern hemisphere and crosses the equator. For the inhabitants of the northern hemisphere and until the summer solstice, the days are dominant and increase in duration, while the nights decrease. In Aries (March 21 to April 21), the diurnal durations are substantially equal to the nocturnal ones. In Taurus (April 21 to May 21), daytime durations are significantly longer than nighttime. Finally, in Gemini (May 21 to June 21), the diurnal durations, always increasing, are now clearly greater than the nocturnal ones: the summer solstice is approaching…

The dominant and increasing days are for living beings a factor of excitement, dynamism, openness to the outside world. In spring, this openness is a source of euphoria, the desire to move, the exaltation of the senses at the end of the long winter nights. But at the same time in the southern hemisphere, outside the tropics, we find ourselves in autumn, in the rain and the falling leaves that are so conducive to melancholy, which has no place in spring, except for the melancholic temperaments and all those who prefer the cold and the endless nights.

The spring type

Aries Taurus GeminiThe three Signs of spring are characterized by their faculty of openness, of presence (dominant day length) and their expansive dynamism (increasing day length). The other side of the coin: they make closing attitudes difficult or problematic, the reflexes allowing one to be absent (duration of non-dominant nights) and the deployment of the faculties of retraction and concentration (decreasing of non-dominant nights).

Excitation quicknessStrong points: if the Signs of Spring dominate in your chart, an important part of yourself expresses itself in an extremely lively, mobile, open, available way. You get off to a quick start and are always ready to dynamically invest yourself in the outside world. Highly excitable, you instantly mobilize your energy for what interests or excites you.

Unadapted Inhibition slownessWeak points: you generally find it difficult to remain unmoved, to say no, not to answer tit-au-tac. You too often ignore the virtues of patience, indifference, tenacity. Your excessive openness to the world prevents you from leaving it to better internalize yourself. When you have exhausted all your energy reserves, you sink into prostration, inertia.

Natural Aries in the northern hemisphere

AriesAstronomy: increasing and dominant days, diurnal durations equal to nocturnal ones.

Astrology: strong points: swift openness, effusive presence, sense of opposites. Weak points: lack of closedness, of focused absence, egalitarian phase.

Excitation quicknessStrengths: lively, dynamic and conquering, the Aries sets out to meet the outside world and the beings that inhabit it. For him everything is clear: we are for or against, inside or outside, friend or enemy. His impatient presence constantly seeks a decisive victory over the forces of absence, of indifference. His self imposes itself on the other by opposing itself in an acute, strident way. His choices are immediate and decisive, his commitments fiery and compelling, his initiatives bold and varied.

Unadapted Inhibition slownessWeaknesses: turbulent, undisciplined, Aries can fish for lack of restraint, restraint, reserve. Manichaean and ultra-reactive, he can’t stand being resisted, and his judgments and reactions lack nuance. Everything is a pretext for him to create conflicts, divisions, often useless confrontations. He exhausts himself and his entourage in vain fights, sterile oppositions, ineffective provocations. He risks being the victim of his refusal to accept and understand the other and to see in him something other than a rival to be defeated.

Symbolic Aries

AriesAstronomy: nil.

Astrology: sign of Fire Cardinal, Hot and Dry. The Fire of Aries is Cardinal: it therefore ignites quickly, takes burning initiatives, becomes passionately hot. March, sa master planet, also Hot and Dry (in reality, its temperature can go down to −120 °C in winter and only goes up to 0° at the equator during the Marsian summer, which has nothing to do with the heat wave), makes it aggressive and quarrelsome.

Natural Taurus in the northern hemisphere

TaurusAstronomy: increasing and dominant days, diurnal durations greater than nocturnal.

Astrology: strong points: swift openness, effusive presence, sense of proportions. Weak points: lack of closedness, of focused absence, paradoxical phase.

Excitation quicknessStrengths: lively, dynamic and conquering, the Taurus intends to gradually and implacably impose its domination, its mastery over the outside world and the beings that inhabit it. For him, everything is a matter of subtle dosage: there is no good without evil, the whole thing is to find the effective dose, the adequate proportion. His impatient presence constantly seeks the submission of the forces of absence, of indifference. His ego imposes itself on the other by dominating him in a heavy way, at the risk of crushing him, of transforming him into a slave or a stooge.

Unadapted Inhibition slownessWeaknesses: turbulent, undisciplined, the Taurus can fish for lack of restraint, restraint, reserve in his tyrannical impulses. Imbued with his own imposing presence, he tends to underestimate others, to filibuster as soon as they pretend to want to escape his unbearable yoke. He makes a mountain out of nothing, his passions blind him, he loses himself in the maze of his subtleties. His massive and cumbersome bad faith, his unrequited egocentrism risk provoking the revolt of those he has reduced to slavery.

Symbolic Taurus

TaurusAstronomy: nil.

Astrology: sign of Earth Fixed, Cold and Dry. The Land of Taurus is Fixed: hence its materialistic and static character, its ruminations on the level of the daisies, its unshakable possessiveness. Her master planet is Venus, Hot and Humid (in reality, its temperature on the ground is indeed 457 °C, but there is almost no water on Venus, and even less air). Venus brings to the Cold and Dry Taurus the Warm Humidity of her sensual desires. It takes that to move him and soften him.

 Taurus-Gemini synastry

Natural Gemini in the northern hemisphere

GeminiAstronomy: increasing and dominant days, ultra-dominant diurnal lengths.

Astrology: strong points: swift openness, effusive presence, sense of syntheses. Weak points: lack of closedness, of focused absence, ultraparadoxical phase.

Excitation quicknessStrengths: lively, dynamic and conquering, the Gemini is in osmosis with the outside world and the beings that inhabit it. Open to everything without restriction, he intends to escape dilemmas and contradictions and spontaneously bring together the most opposing points of view. Its impatient and invasive omnipresence constantly seeks to minimize or deny the forces of absence, of indifference. His expansive self flexibly colonizes the other, whom he embraces without hugging. His choices are diverse and interchangeable depending on the opportunities of the moment.

Unadapted Inhibition slownessWeaknesses: turbulent, undisciplined, Gemini can fish for an absolute lack of restraint, restraint, reserve. Ambivalent, fragmented, dispersed and suggestible, he spreads around him without worrying about the existence of others. Everything is a pretext for him to make baseless analogies, to create bric-a-brac without rhyme or reason. He exhausts himself and those around him by dint of jumping from cock to donkey without warning, behaving as a friend with his adversaries and as an adversary with his friends. He risks being the victim of his refusal to accept and understand that the other has the right to protect his territory.

Symbolic Gemini

GeminiAstronomy: nil.

Astrology: Sign of Air Mutable, Warm and Wet. The Air of Gemini is Mutable: hence its side “I sow to all winds”, his disembodied and volatile character, unstable and communicative. Her master planet is Mercury, planet of Cold and Dry Earth (in reality, the temperature of Mercury oscillates between 430 °C at noon and −170 °C at midnight, which on average makes it a rather hot and dry planet). Mercury brings to Hot and Humid Gemini the Coldness and Dryness of its smiling curiosity and fluttering sociability (?!).
